Governor Charles Soludo has fulfilled a pre-office pledge by constructing a modern general hospital for the Okpoko community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Enhanced Healthcare Services for the Community
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, stated that Dr. Chinasa Eze from the Ophthalmology Unit of Okpoko General Hospital confirmed the governor’s efforts in equipping the eyecare division with facilities to enhance vision care for the community. Additionally, free antenatal services have been approved for pregnant women in the area.
National Recognition for Primary Healthcare Excellence
This follows Governor Soludo’s recent recognition as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in both the Southeast and across Nigeria.
Prestigious Awards for Healthcare Achievements
The prestigious awards were conferred by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF.
Infrastructure and Workforce Expansion in the Healthcare Sector
As part of his infrastructural efforts to transform the healthcare sector, the governor has upgraded primary healthcare centers and built five new general hospitals, outfitting them with top-tier facilities and skilled personnel to ensure efficient, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services.
To strengthen the healthcare sector, the governor hired 1,000 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, consultants, pharmacists, and medical laboratory technicians, while also introducing telemedicine for more efficient healthcare delivery.
Financial Rewards for Healthcare Excellence
Anambra State was awarded a total of $1,200,000, comprising $500,000 for its achievement in the Southeast and $700,000 for overall excellence in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.
Anambra’s Fiscal Success Under Soludo’s Leadership
Governor Soludo’s innovative leadership has also secured Anambra the fourth position in BudgIT’s State of States 2024 Report for overall fiscal performance and sustainability. This achievement highlights the state’s outstanding performance in both fiscal management and healthcare.
