Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is earning widespread praise for his decisive action in revamping the state’s road infrastructure, continuing projects from the past administration while launching new initiatives to boost mobility and development.

A recent assessment by Info Daily reveals that Okpebholo has not only prioritized the completion of inherited road projects but has also initiated fresh constructions in key areas of Benin City.

Major Road Projects Underway

During a visit to the Ogbe community near Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, it was observed that several Ogbewaise link roads, started by the previous administration, have now been fully completed. The newly asphalted roads have drastically improved transportation in the area.

Similarly, work has resumed on the long-abandoned Ekewan Road dualization project, which had stalled near the Army Barracks. The Okpebholo-led administration has re-engaged contractors to extend the road, laying asphalt and constructing a retention pond to curb erosion in the vicinity.

In Charismatic Renewal Road, off Ekewan Road, a once-impassable 1.4 km stretch is undergoing construction. The governor had assured residents during his campaign that he would fix the road, and his administration is delivering on that promise with new side drainages and a retention pond.

More Roads Get a Facelift

At Uteh, off Palace Road in Upper Mission, a 4.7 km road project, awarded in February 2025, is progressing swiftly. According to site engineer Tomiwa Atoyebi, 1.6 km of drainage construction has been completed, and the project is on track for its February 2026 deadline.

“We are currently focusing on drainage and earthworks. With 1.6 km of drainage completed, we are moving ahead with the base construction. The project is well on schedule,” Atoyebi assured.

In Teboga, Upper Mission, another major road project is reshaping the landscape. Previously ravaged by erosion, the area is now being leveled, with a wide drainage system directing floodwaters to the Ikpoba River.

Governor Okpebholo’s proactive approach to road development is significantly improving Edo State’s infrastructure, fulfilling campaign promises, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
