President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform converged on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, for the party’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The high-profile gathering, seen as a pivotal moment for the ruling party, also had in attendance former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau; and Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
Others present included ministers, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), and top government functionaries affiliated with the party.
Tribute to Buhari, swearing-in of new national chairman
According to the meeting agenda, the programme features a tribute session in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The NEC will also witness the formal swearing-in and acceptance speech of the newly elected APC National Chairman.
While the identity of the new chairman is widely speculated to be Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, an official announcement is expected after internal consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver key remarks during the session to outline strategic directions for the APC amidst ongoing internal restructuring and preparations for future elections.
The NEC meeting comes on the heels of recent leadership changes, including the resignation of former National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, as stakeholders push for reforms to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party sources disclosed that deliberations will focus on leadership realignment, strategic reforms, and policy directions that align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
