Sowore Blasts Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai Alliance: ‘I Won’t Join Coalition of Nigeria’s Oppressors’

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has dismissed the proposed political alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as a recycled strategy doomed to fail.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Sowore rejected any suggestion of joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or aligning with opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This response follows Atiku’s recent declaration during a press briefing by the Concerned Leaders and Political Stakeholders in Nigeria, where he announced plans to unite opposition forces to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the next election cycle.

Sowore: 2015 Coalition Gave Birth to APC’s Failure

Sowore argued that the same kind of coalition being proposed was what led to the rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he believes has failed the country. “The coalition that birthed the APC in 2013 and 2015 led to the current state of the nation,” he said. “Repeating the same approach in 2025 with the same actors is a betrayal of the Nigerian people.”

Calls for a ‘Coalition of the Oppressed’

Instead of joining forces with familiar political faces, Sowore advocated for an entirely different kind of alliance. “What this country needs is a coalition of the oppressed, not the recycled politicians who plunged us into this crisis,” he declared. He warned that aligning with such figures amounts to perpetuating injustice and sustaining a broken political order.

No Plans to Join SDP or Political Power Games

Sowore also addressed rumors linking him with the SDP, making it clear that he has no intention of jumping ship. “I will never be a part of that,” he said. “I’m not joining the SDP. I’m not part of those playing chess with the destiny of Nigerians.”

His comments underscored his commitment to remaining independent and focused on people-driven change rather than elite-driven politics.

That’s Sowore opinion. We are talking about economy mismanagement and hunger, you are talking about oppressor, who is oppressing who? Go and seat down please.
