Igbo Traditional Leaders in diaspora , under the aegis of Registered Members of “Ndindu Ndigbo Nauzoije”, has finally jettisoned their hitherto controversial Eze Ndigbo title for a new nomenclature called ‘Onyendu”, meaning leader.
It would be recalled that following alleged abuse of Eze Ndigbo titles by some leader’s in diaspora, the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, led by His Royal Majesty ,Eze Emmanuel Okeke, had in 2025, directed all diaspora Eze Ndigbo ,to change their nomenclature to “Onyendu Ndigbo”.
This was immediately followed by a pronouncement by the Lagos State government in a gazette banning the use of Eze Ndigbo titles in the state.
At it’s re- inauguration meeting held yesterday, March 27, 2026, at the Aceland Royal Garden Hotel , Ejigbo , Lagos, the group finally sealed their earlier decision on the controversial name change and directed all Former Ndieze Ndigbo to revert to “Onyendu Ndigbo”.
They also used the opportunity to elect new Executive official members to steer the affair of the group .
The officials so elected for the Council of Ndindu Ndigbo Lagos State Chapter are , Onyendu Uche Dimgba, as Gburugburu Lagos State ; Nicholas Njoku as Vice Chairman; Remy Anyamele as Secretary ; Emenike Okpaga as Financial Secretary ; Sunday Augustine Ojukwu as Treasurer , Steven Dike as Publicity Secretary and Nnaemeka Agbo as welfare officer.
Others are Onyendu Uche Dimgba, the new Onyendu Gburugburu in Lagos State, Gerald Onuchukwu , Chairman Ndindu Ndigbo in South West and Secretary George Iheonunekwu from Osun State ,as Secretary to Ndindu Ndigbo in South West.
In his acceptance speech , Onyendu Dimgba promised to put up an all inclusive system to ensure smooth running of the group.
He called for cooperation from his colleagues, warning dissenting voices to key into the new system or face the music.
In his own remarks, Onyendu Nicholas Njoku, expressed his gratefulness to those that nominated and elected him as Vice Chairman.
According to him , the essence of the new name is to accord respect to the South East Royal Father.
Speaking , the Overall Leader of Ndindu Ndigbo in Diaspora , Onyendu . A. O. Obi, who came from Oyo State as an Observer ,expressed satisfaction with the Election and urge those yet to adopt the new nomenclature change to immediately do so in their interest, before it’s late.
Some of the leaders at the meeting includes , Onyendu Alex Sunday Nwoye, Peter Umeh , Emeka Ugwakome, Steven Nwosu, Tony Anosike , Remy Anyamele, Nicholas Njoku, Emenike Okpaga, Gerald Onuchukwu, Nnaemeka , Augustine Ebisi, Professor Okunamiri and many others.
