Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former Kano State governor completed his registration on Monday and received his membership card at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.
The event drew key political figures, including ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Senator Dino Melaye, and former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
Kwankwaso’s move follows his resignation from the NNPP, which he announced on Sunday, citing the need for political realignment amid evolving national dynamics.
In his statement, he described the decision as difficult, given his longstanding ties to the party. He, however, noted that the current political climate necessitates alignment with a platform better positioned to drive national change.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership, including National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and his supporters for their continued loyalty.
He added that collaboration toward a more prosperous Nigeria would remain a shared goal.
