2019 Presidential Candidate PMA to Defect Amid Consultations

In a notable shift within Nigeria’s political arena, Princess Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies (PMA), a respected scholar, humanitarian, and 2019 presidential candidate, has announced the likelihood of her departure from her former political party. However, she has not yet declared allegiance to any new platform, stating that she is still consulting with Nigerian youth.

In a statement released earlier on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Prof. Adesanya-Davies said:

“The decision towards exiting my former political affiliation is being aimed at by the Nigerian youth, after careful consideration of the current political climate and my unwavering commitment to the aspirations of Nigerians. I am actively engaging with young Nigerians across the country to chart a course forward that aligns with our collective vision for a prosperous and inclusive nation.

Known for her strong advocacy for education, gender equity, and youth empowerment, Prof Adesanya-Davies has consistently been a voice for the marginalized. Her choice of defection or otherwise would signify a strategic move to foster broader political inclusivity and mobilize grassroots support for future initiatives.

While there is growing anticipation about her next political step, with a new Political affliction or a choice of INDEPENDENT CONDIDACY, Prof Adesanya-Davies has assured Nigerians that any decisions regarding her future political affiliations will be made transparently and in consultation with stakeholders, especially the youth who represent the backbone of Nigeria’s democracy.

This development comes as Nigeria prepares for a new era of leadership and governance in 2027 presidential election, with young Nigerians playing a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future. For further updates, the public is encouraged to stay tuned as Prof Adesanya-Davies continues her consultations.

Remarkably, it is worthy of note that, “Earlier this year, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also honoured Prof. Adesanya-Davies with a Certificate of Credence for her decades-long service in education and peace advocacy. The event was held on February 18, 2025, at the School of Postgraduate Studies, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.

NANS recognized her leadership and dedication as a lecturer for over four decades. “She is our own mother,” the student senators said, lauding her role as a former Country President of UN-POLAC and recently appointed International Peace Consul. It is believed that the political career of the University Don in the view of Nigerian Youth is yet on front burner, as their National Grand Mentor.

We would recall that just two days ago, May 13, 2025, Leadership Newspapers headlines captured, “NYC Names Ex-female Presidential Candidate Nigerian Youths’ Grand Mentor” in a news report by Abdullahi Olesin. It reads:

“Former female presidential candidate Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, who was born in Kwara, has been conferred the title of the national grand mentor of Nigerian youths. The Nigerian Youth Convergence (NYC) conferred the honour on Adesanya-Davies at a ceremony held at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja.”

“At the event, the Nigerian Youth Convergence (NYC) president, Comrade Dogo Shagari, had praised Adesanya-Davies for her commitment to uplifting the country. He urged her to intensify her efforts to empower the youth and promote peace and unity in the country.”

“This well-deserved award is a testament to her moral integrity and positive contributions to education, peacebuilding, and national unity,” Shagari noted. He called on Adesanya-Davies to see the award as a rallying point for intensified youth engagement, particularly ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.

In her remarks at the event, Adesanya-Davies applauded the Nigerian youths’ contribution to the nation’s economy. She urged the youths to remain relentless and proactive in their efforts to effect necessary positive change in the country.

Declaring that “Nigeria must be better”, the university don assured the youths that with the collective efforts of all stakeholders,” Nigeria can become the nation of our dreams.”

In a similar Exclusive report by PENTALK NEWS captioned: “Princess Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies Named National Grand Mentor of Nigerian Youths” and “Nigeria Must Be Better!” — Adesanya-Davies Urges Youths to Lead Change. The news went viral that:

“Princess Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has been officially honoured with the title of National Grand Mentor of Nigerian Youths, outshining other nominees. The award was presented during a high-profile event organized by the National Youth Convergence (NYC), held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja. The gathering brought together youth leaders and dignitaries to celebrate the milestone. It continued:

“Adesanya-Davies, a former 2019 Presidential candidate under the Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA) and member of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), delivered an inspiring message during the ceremony. She called on women and young people to remain relentless, assertive, and not settle for secondary roles in society.

“In her acceptance remarks, Her Excellency, Bishop Prof. Amb. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies expressed gratitude to the NYC Secretariat. Her core message centered on peace, unity, and progress. “Peace is my identity and strength,” she affirmed. Addressing women and youths, she declared, “Let peace and love shine through every word and action.” The youths responded with their resounding slogan: “Build the Youth, Build the Nation! Ignore the Youth, Destroy the Nation!”

The award plaque reads:

“This is to certify that Princess, Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has been duly nominated and confirmed as the National Grand Mentor of Nigerian Youth. This nomination, conducted by the Nigerian Youths Convergence, was endorsed by Arewa Youth Council, Igbo Youth Association, Yoruba Youth Association, Niger Delta Youth Forum, and other global youth bodies. The selection took place in March 2025.”

The event was convened by Amb. Comrade Dogo Shagari and supported by NYC executives including Amb. Samuel Adegbola (National Secretary), Abdullahi Bilal (Head of Administration), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu (Chief of Staff), Christabel Ramsey (Woman Leader), and Comrade Onwe Peter (National Publicity Secretary), among others.

Dignitaries in attendance included former General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Barr. Daramola Joseph; Apostle John Kareem of Sovereign Jesus Ministry; retired police officer Rev. James Paul Adama; Dr. Ilesanmi Andrew; and Comrade Nuhu Agwom. Members of Princess Adesanya-Davies’ family and press representatives were also present.

Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the honoree, Dr. Victoria O. Solomon, her longtime student, praised Adesanya-Davies’ commitment to education, youth empowerment, and national development. She commended the NYC for recognizing her contributions and urged her to continue inspiring the next generation.
