Peter Obi 2027 Presidential Bid is now official. The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate has confirmed he will contest again, stating it may be his final attempt at Nigeria’s top job. He also reaffirmed loyalty to LP and dismissed rumours of joining an opposition coalition.
In a video shared on LP’s WhatsApp platforms, Obi spoke directly to young Nigerians. He denied reports of a planned alliance involving Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“I’m Still with Labour Party” – Obi
“I will still continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party,” he declared, putting an end to defection rumours. He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of creating division within LP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to weaken the opposition before 2027.
“What is happening in the Labour Party and the PDP is caused by the government. Quote me anywhere. These crises are not organic; they are manufactured by those in power,” Obi said.
He criticised the current political atmosphere and compared it with the era of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. According to him, internal party issues were resolved more fairly back then. Obi claimed that today’s problems in political parties are deliberate and driven by the ruling party.
“You can’t have a democracy without strong opposition,” he said. He urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to stay engaged and protect democracy through active voting and demanding transparency.
Obi Hints at Retirement After 2027
Obi, who will be 65 in 2027, suggested he may retire from presidential contests after that election.
“I believe in giving room for new leadership. After 2027, I want to step back and contribute in other ways,” he said.
He also called for reforms, including age limits for candidates in elective offices. Obi’s declaration has energized LP supporters and confirmed his continued influence in the race for 2027.
