Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has refuted reports suggesting a breakdown in his relationship with federal and state lawmakers from the state, describing such claims as baseless.

The governor spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of the newly expanded and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road.

Fubara clarified that contrary to rumours of avoiding the lawmakers, plans were already in place for a meeting with them.

He disclosed that the proposed engagement was to be convened by his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, alongside elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba and other key leaders.

According to the governor, anyone claiming that he refused to meet with the lawmakers or rejected discussions concerning them “is simply being untruthful.”

Fubara, who officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, used the occasion to urge Rivers residents to continue giving their support to President Bola Tinubu.

He told his supporters that his move to the APC was not driven by personal ambition but by his desire to foster peace and sustain development in the state.

The governor appealed to the people to remain united, avoid divisive politics, and continue to support both the President and the Rivers State Government.

He reaffirmed his determination to deliver democratic dividends to residents despite the challenges facing his administration.

Fubara recalled that the Ahoada–Omoku Road project was part of the commitment he made during his campaign tour of the area with former Governor Wike, assuring the people at the time that the road would be completed if he and President Tinubu were elected.

According to him, the completed road will improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the socio-economic welfare of communities along the route.

He added that several other development projects are currently in progress across the state.

It will be recalled that the governor formally resigned from the PDP and joined the APC on Tuesday, the party under which he contested and won the 2023 governorship election.
