Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the dissolution of the expanded State Executive Council (SEC) shortly after resuming office, following his six-month suspension by President Bola Tinubu.

Fubara Rivers Executive Council Reshaped

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor confirmed that the dissolution takes effect immediately.

Those affected include commissioners, special advisers, and other public officials named in the recent Supreme Court judgment. They had served in Fubara’s administration until March 18, when emergency rule was declared and all were compelled to vacate office.

Political Expectations and Wike’s Influence

Many political observers anticipated that the governor would retain some high-performing cabinet members. However, others voiced concerns that, given the role played by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in facilitating Fubara’s return to office, he could wield significant influence over the composition of the new cabinet.

Governor Thanks Former Cabinet Members

At a valedictory session held yesterday in Port Harcourt, the governor expressed gratitude to the cabinet members for their service and contributions to the state’s development over the past two years.

Emphasizing the importance of Nigeria’s Independence, he urged citizens to unite with President Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation with a brighter future for all.

He further reaffirmed his dedication to serving the state with renewed energy, appreciating the support of the people and extending warm wishes to Nigerians on the Independence anniversary.

The CPS stated: “The governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.”

Upon assuming office, the immediate past sole administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants appointed by Fubara. He also dissolved existing boards and suspended the heads of parastatals in the state.
