‘PDP Will Laugh Last as APC Faces Imminent Implosion’ — Wabara

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), believes the party will overcome its current challenges and eventually triumph.

Speaking in Aba, Abia State, on Saturday, Wabara addressed the recent wave of defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He dismissed fears over the defections, calling them a “blessing in disguise.” Key figures who recently defected include 2023 vice-presidential candidate Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and several other PDP chieftains.

Wabara Predicts Trouble Within APC

Wabara argued that the defections would not harm PDP’s prospects in the 2027 elections. Instead, he predicted a crisis within the APC as new entrants attempt to sideline loyal members.

“The PDP will laugh last because the APC will soon implode,” Wabara said. “Those defecting will try to push aside the party’s long-standing members. The displaced APC faithful will eventually seek refuge in the PDP.”

He explained that defections are normal in politics and should not cause alarm. According to him, most politicians switching parties are motivated by personal interests, such as securing second terms or political protection.

Despite the defections, Wabara expressed confidence that public dissatisfaction with the APC’s performance would define the 2027 elections.

“Nigerians, who suffer daily due to APC’s poor policies, will vote wisely and protect their votes,” he said. “It won’t be business as usual.”

Wabara warned that Nigerians would no longer accept rigged election results and urged them to defend democracy actively.

“The days when election results are written and aggrieved parties are asked to go to court are over. Nigerians will resist any undemocratic practices,” he stated.

He stressed that the defections reflect leadership decisions rather than grassroots movements. Many loyal PDP members, he said, will remain committed to rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wabara concluded by insisting that the real contest in 2027 would not be between political parties, but between Nigerians determined to rescue their nation and political elites trying to hijack the system.
