Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has disclosed that he may support activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in the 2027 general election, while ruling out backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Lawal made the disclosure during an interview on TVC shortly after announcing his resignation from the ADC. He attributed his departure to alleged irregularities in the party’s presidential primary, which produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.
According to him, his position does not amount to an endorsement of any major political contender but reflects his dissatisfaction with the current political options available ahead of the 2027 elections.
Expressing disappointment with both President Bola Tinubu and Atiku, Lawal said neither represents a compelling leadership alternative.
“I found myself between the devil and the devil. As bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku will be a worse president,” he said.
Despite his criticism of the leading political figures, Lawal maintained that he is not actively involved in partisan politics and is not campaigning for any candidate.
“It doesn’t mean I have to support anybody. I have retired from politics; I am not canvassing for anybody,” he stated.
However, he affirmed that he intends to participate in the 2027 election and revealed that Sowore is among the candidates he is considering.
“I might even vote for Sowore. There are other emerging candidates whom I believe would govern Nigeria better,” he added.
Lawal further disclosed that he has already ruled out supporting several political parties ahead of the election.
“I’ve eliminated APC, now I have eliminated ADC, and I can tell you categorically that I have eliminated NDC,” he said.
His comments come amid ongoing political realignments and defections as politicians and stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. This version is more concise, balanced, and aligned with standard news-writing style.
