Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has stated that he did not leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party abandoned him and his supporters in Delta State.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, Omo-Agege said the APC left him and more than 240,000 of his supporters in the state.
He also defended key economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy and the flotation of the naira, describing them as necessary policies he has consistently supported.
According to Omo-Agege, the same economic measures were also advocated by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The former lawmaker maintained that his position on the policies remains unchanged, noting that he believes they would be more effectively implemented under his current political platform.
“I never left the APC; the APC left me and my over 240,000 supporters in Delta State,” he said.
“President Tinubu introduced policies such as the naira flotation and fuel subsidy removal, which I supported and continue to support. These were not policies unique to him, as Peter Obi also advocated similar measures.
“My views on these policies have not changed. I simply believe that under the new platform I have joined, these reforms will continue, and many Nigerians who have reservations about them may have greater confidence because they trust Peter Obi to implement them more effectively.
“The policies themselves are not bad. I supported them under President Bola Tinubu and I continue to support them.”
