…Human rights group condemns military raid

The Nigerian Human Rights Community (NHRC) has condemned the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for attacking the headquarters of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) in Lagos. The group is calling on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to launch an independent investigation into the incident.

Why Did the Air Force Invade IKEDC?

On Thursday, armed Air Force personnel stormed IKEDC’s office after the company disconnected electricity at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to IKEDC spokesperson Kingsley Okotie, the officers vandalized property, assaulted staff, and took company assets.

NHRC: “This Is an Attack on Democracy”

In a statement, NHRC President Adewale Adeoye called the invasion illegal and a threat to democracy.

“After 25 years of democracy, military invasions of private companies should not be happening,” the statement said. “This attack violated the Nigerian constitution and shows a lack of discipline within the Air Force.”

The group warned that if the officers responsible are not punished, similar incidents may occur in the future.

NHRC Demands Justice and Compensation

The NHRC urged the government to:

Identify and punish those involved.

Investigate the damage done to IKEDC.

Compensate the company for losses.

“Armed soldiers cannot storm a corporate office, brutalize staff, and destroy property without consequences,” the NHRC stated.

Will Tinubu Take Action?

This case puts pressure on President Tinubu to take a stand against military overreach. Many Nigerians are watching closely to see if the government will hold the Air Force accountable.
