…Atiku reaffirms loyalty to PDP, pushes for opposition coalition
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have strongly refuted reports suggesting they are secretly supporting a presidential ticket featuring former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Labour Party’s Peter Obi for the 2027 elections.
The PDP Governors Forum described the rumors as a deliberate attempt to sow division within the opposition and weaken democratic institutions.

In a statement issued by its Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the forum accused political detractors of attempting to discredit the achievements of PDP-led states.
“It is obvious that these mischief makers, intimidated by the impactful governance of PDP governors despite challenges from the ruling APC, are only attempting to discredit our efforts,” the statement read.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to upholding equity, social justice, and electoral integrity, insisting that PDP governors would fully support the party’s chosen flag-bearer in 2027.
Atiku Shuts Down Defection Rumors, Calls for Opposition Unity
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed speculation about his defection from the PDP.
In a statement from his media office, Atiku reaffirmed his membership in the party and reiterated his call for a broad opposition coalition to challenge the APC in the next general election.
“Atiku is spearheading discussions for a strong opposition alliance, including the PDP. Claims of him abandoning the party are baseless and aimed at misleading Nigerians,” the statement emphasized.
