Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for an impartial investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Allegation

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central accused Akpabio of sexual harassment during a heated Senate session. The accusation has since sparked widespread reactions.

Atiku Calls for Transparency

Reacting to the controversy, Atiku described the allegations as serious and urged President Bola Tinubu and the Senate to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.

“Like millions of Nigerians, I watched with deep concern as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan raised serious allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and mistreatment against the Senate President,” Atiku said in a statement.

He emphasized that the Senate must maintain integrity and hold its leaders accountable.

Leadership and Accountability

Atiku stressed that as Nigeria’s third most powerful leader, Akpabio should be a role model for ethical leadership and work to protect women’s rights.

“The handling of this matter will send a strong message about Nigeria’s commitment to justice, accountability, and the inclusion of women in governance,” he said.

Women in Politics Must Feel Safe

With only four women currently in the Senate, Atiku highlighted the need for a safe and respectful environment where female legislators can serve without fear of harassment.

Mounting Pressure on Senate

As public scrutiny increases, Atiku’s statement adds pressure on the Senate and the presidency to act swiftly. Many Nigerians are now watching to see how the case unfolds.
