In a bid to revamp Nigeria’s healthcare system, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed six new Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) to lead federal government-owned hospitals across the country.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointments on Friday, emphasizing that the decision aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening medical services and ensuring quality healthcare for Nigerians.

List of Appointed CMDs

Among those appointed is Olusegun Sylvester Ojo, who will head the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure in Ondo State. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi has also been reappointed for a second term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.

Other appointees include:

Dauda Abubakar Katagum, confirmed as the substantive CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State.

Ikrama Hassan, appointed as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lafiya, Nasarawa State.

Ali Mohammed Ramat, assigned to lead the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital, Maiduguri, Borno State.

Haruna Abubakar Shehu, named CMD of the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Appointments Take Immediate Effect

According to Onanuga, the appointments are effective immediately, with each CMD set to serve a four-year term. He noted that Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi’s second and final tenure at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, began on September 5, 2024, while Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum’s leadership at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, commenced on December 6, 2024.

Tinubu Charges Appointees to Uphold Excellence

President Tinubu congratulated the new CMDs and urged them to uphold professionalism, accountability, and excellence in service delivery as they take on their new responsibilities.
