The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Ogini Olaposi, said that Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya Movement, not the party, are implementing plans to join the APC.

Olaposi made the statement on Monday in Lagos to clarify the situation.

Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, said on Saturday that he and his supporters are ready to implement their move to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He warned that his political movement will not let anyone use it just to win elections and then abandon it.

Reacting to the announcement, Olaposi said Kwankwaso’s statement proves that he and his movement are separate from the NNPP.

“At last, we have been vindicated. Any party negotiating with Kwankwaso must do so with him personally,” Olaposi said.

He added, “Our party can now focus on implementing its agenda without resistance from the Movement, which we expelled for anti-party activities. The NNPP does not oppose the ruling party. If we decide to form an alliance with the APC or any other party ahead of the 2027 elections, all members will make the decision together.”

He concluded, “For now, we are implementing strategies to strengthen our party and restore order nationwide after the crises and litigation caused by Kwankwaso and his followers.”
