The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted an operational licence to Unique Open University, Lagos, paving the way for the commencement of academic activities at the newly approved institution.
The founder and chancellor of the university, Prof. Chris Imumolen, received the licence at the NUC headquarters in Abuja. The document was formally presented to him by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Yusufu Abdullahi Ribadu.
Prof. Ribadu commended the university for the quality of its facilities and its readiness to begin operations. He expressed optimism that the institution would contribute positively to Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
Prof. Imumolen, a renowned philanthropist and youth advocate, attended the presentation with members of his team and the university’s Governing Council. He thanked the NUC for its swift and transparent inspection and approval process, describing the milestone as “a major step toward redefining education in Nigeria and across West Africa.”
According to him, Unique Open University aims to equip students with practical skills that will make them employable and capable of creating job opportunities for others.
The official inauguration, dedication, and opening ceremony of the university is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at its campus located at Iyana Isashi Bus Stop, along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, Ojo, Lagos.
The event, themed “Empowering Generations through Knowledge, Innovation, and Opportunity,” will feature the unveiling of the university’s management team and an address by Prof. Imumolen outlining the institution’s vision and mission.
