The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on October 27, 2025, continued his statewide engagement on election security and community safety with visits to the Ihiala Area Command and Oraifite Division.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the visits were part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to promote patriotism, strengthen community policing, and ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

During the engagements, CP Orutugu met with key stakeholders, including the President General of Ihiala Community, the Commander of Agunechemba Vigilante Group, the Youth Chairman, representatives of the Local Government Chairman, and officers of the Police Command within the respective jurisdictions.

At the Ihiala Area Command, the Police Commissioner expressed confidence that past security challenges in the area were being effectively addressed. He commended the residents of Ihiala and Oraifite for their courage, civic responsibility, and cooperation with security agencies, noting that their resilience had prevented criminal groups from disrupting political activities or community peace.

In Oraifite, CP Orutugu applauded the synergy among security agencies operating in the area and emphasized that no single agency could take sole credit for maintaining safety. He also clarified that local vigilante groups would not be part of election security operations.

Reiterating the Police Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, CP Orutugu assured that security arrangements were being reinforced to ensure that the forthcoming election is peaceful, secure, and credible. He urged residents to embrace patriotism by rejecting intimidation, resisting fear tactics, and participating freely in the democratic process.

Addressing officers and men under the two Area Commands, the CP charged them to uphold discipline, professionalism, and courtesy in their duties. He stressed that effective policing must be people-centered, intelligence-driven, and grounded in respect for human rights.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Joint Security Framework remains active and will be expanded across communities to prevent criminal infiltration and sustain peace before, during, and after the election.

The Command called on residents to remain law-abiding and proactive by providing credible information that can aid ongoing security operations. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines — 112 or 07039194332 — for prompt response.
