The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the foiling of an attempted armed attack on Ezinifite community in Nnewi South Local Government Area during the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident was swiftly repelled through the combined efforts of police operatives and members of the Agunechamba Vigilante group.
Ikenga said the joint security team engaged the attackers in a gun duel, resulting in the death of one suspect, while others fled into nearby bushes with possible gunshot wounds. A pump-action gun and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered at the scene.
He added that offensive and intelligence-led operations were ongoing in collaboration with police tactical teams to track down the fleeing assailants.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the swift response of the joint security operatives and the vigilance of community security structures. He assured residents of the Command’s readiness to protect lives and property, especially as the November 8, 2025 governorship election draws near.
