Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has been lauded for his dedication to advancing road infrastructure by completing inherited projects and launching new initiatives across the state.

Investigations by Info Daily confirm that several key road projects in the Benin metropolis have been revived, with ongoing construction efforts aimed at improving accessibility and curbing erosion-related challenges.

Reviving Stalled Projects and Expanding Road Networks

A recent visit to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium area in Ogbe community revealed that multiple Ogbewaise link roads, originally initiated by the previous administration, have now been fully completed. Freshly laid asphalt has significantly eased movement in the area, bringing much-needed relief to residents and commuters.

Similarly, work has resumed on the long-abandoned dualization of Ekewan Road, which had previously stalled near the Army Barracks. Contractors have been re-engaged to extend the road up to the barracks, with asphalt now being laid and a retentive pond under construction to tackle persistent erosion issues.

Fulfilling Campaign Promises with Strategic Road Upgrades

Governor Okpebholo’s administration has also commenced construction on Charismatic Renewal Road, a previously impassable 1.4 km stretch off Ekewan Road. The governor had pledged during his campaign to make the road accessible, and the ongoing project includes dual drainage systems and a retention pond to ensure sustainability.

Further reinforcing the administration’s commitment to road expansion, work is progressing at Uteh, off Palace Road in Upper Mission, Benin, where a 4.7 km road project, awarded in February 2025, is well underway.

Site Engineer Tomiwa Atoyebi reported that significant progress has been made, particularly in drainage construction, with 1.6 km already completed. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed by its scheduled February 2026 deadline.

“Our focus now is on drainage and earthworks. We have achieved 1.6 km of drainage on both sides of the road and are advancing with formwork for base construction. We are committed to meeting the project timeline,” Atoyebi assured.

Transforming Flood-Prone Areas into Motorable Routes

In Teboga, Upper Mission, Benin, extensive road construction is also ongoing. The area, previously plagued by severe erosion, is undergoing a major transformation with a newly designed drainage system directing water flow toward the Ikpoba River.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration continues to make remarkable strides in Edo State’s road infrastructure, reinforcing its commitment to improved mobility, better living conditions, and long-term urban development.
