…Natasha denies ₦500m payout, calls allegation baseless
Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed claims that she received ₦500 million from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling the allegation a deliberate falsehood meant to mislead the public and tarnish her image.
In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, the Kogi Central senator denied ever receiving such funds and insisted that no such transaction took place.
“Let me be clear: I have never received ₦500 million or any amount from Senator Akpabio. At no time did I make any statement suggesting such. This is nothing but a deliberate attempt to create unnecessary controversy,” she said.
Senator Warns Against Fake News, Demands Proof
Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned the spread of politically motivated misinformation, warning that fake news threatens the country’s democratic values. She urged Nigerians to verify information before accepting or sharing it.
The senator also challenged those behind the claim to provide concrete evidence, asserting that she remains committed to integrity and accountability in public service.
She noted that false allegations are often used as political weapons to distract from pressing national issues.
“These baseless accusations are meant to shift attention from the real issues affecting Nigerians. I will not be deterred by such distractions,” she added.
Calls for Investigation Into Misinformation
She further called on security agencies to investigate the source of the misinformation and take necessary action against those responsible.
Reaffirming her commitment to truth and justice, Akpoti-Uduaghan declared, “Defamation and character assassination should have no place in our society. I am confident that the truth will always prevail.”
