The high-level engagement aligns with the NCSP’s mission to deepen trade and economic cooperation between Nigeria and China. Tegbe shared key takeaways from his recent visit to China, where he held talks with top firms including SINOMACH-HE and China National Electrical Engineering Company (CNEEC).

Ambassador Yu expressed concern over the escalating US-China tariff tensions, noting their possible adverse effects on developing economies. Both parties acknowledged the urgency of leveraging the current global trade environment to strengthen bilateral relations.

Tegbe called for Chinese investments in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, urging Chinese firms to set up plants locally and share technical expertise. He highlighted Nigeria’s potential as a strategic export hub for the African continent and beyond, especially under existing trade agreements.

The discussions also covered legal and regulatory challenges in bilateral trade. Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing its strategic partnership with Nigeria, citing recent tariff reductions on Nigerian goods and the signing of an MoU on shelled peanuts under FOCAC.

Both sides agreed to expedite protocols for increased exports of aquatic seafood and soybeans. Tegbe pledged to work closely with relevant Nigerian ministries and agencies to position the country for expanded exports to China.

The meeting underscored a shared resolve to deepen Nigeria-China relations and explore new avenues for economic growth.
