In a renewed effort to strengthen economic and technological ties between Nigeria and China, the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) recently played host to a high-level delegation from the Z-Park Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Association. The visit is part of an ongoing drive to foster strategic collaboration and unlock fresh opportunities for Nigeria’s digital economy and industrial development.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation in Technology and Infrastructure

The Chinese delegation, led by Mr. Shi Qilin, Executive Secretary-General of Z-Park Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Association, was warmly received in Abuja by the Director-General of NCSP, Mr. Joseph Tegbe. The meeting focused on creating avenues for bilateral cooperation in key sectors, including science and technology, infrastructure development, education, and cultural exchanges.

During the engagement, both parties emphasized the importance of collaboration to advance Nigeria’s technological ecosystem and build capacity in local industries. The NCSP and Z-Park team explored ways to leverage China’s scientific expertise and technological advancements to drive localized solutions for Nigeria’s industrial and agricultural sectors. The goal, according to the discussions, is to stimulate job creation, enhance skills development, and accelerate economic growth.

China’s Investment in Nigeria’s Digital and Industrial Growth

Mr. Shi Qilin delivered an in-depth presentation on the success story of the Zhongguancun Infovalley Science and Technology Park, operated by the ZGC Group. He disclosed that the group has developed 50 industrial parks across China over the past 25 years and is eager to replicate similar technology hubs in Africa, starting with Nigeria. He highlighted the potential to collaborate through initiatives like the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, with a focus on technology transfer, engineering, and education.

In his remarks, Mr. Joseph Tegbe reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to nurturing strategic partnerships with China, reflecting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda. He noted that President Tinubu’s administration is prioritizing trade, investment, and infrastructure development as cornerstones for national progress. Tegbe also underscored opportunities in renewable energy, electric vehicle production, and the broader digital economy.

The Chinese delegation included other senior officials from ZGC Group, Infogu Industry-Education Integration Technology Co. Ltd, and the Ogun-Guangdong Free Trade Zone. Their visit underscored the growing significance of Nigeria-China cooperation in advancing cross-border innovation and economic development.

As talks continue, both NCSP and Z-Park expressed optimism about building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships that will shape Nigeria’s future as a regional technology hub.
