Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed Governor Douye Diri’s security concerns as “shamefully baseless.” He accused the Bayelsa governor of using Wike as a distraction from his failures.
Alleged Rally Sparks Controversy
Governor Diri recently warned of a planned mega rally in Bayelsa to support Wike, suggesting possible security risks. However, Olayinka rejected this claim. He argued that Wike would personally inform security agencies if he intended to attend any political event.
“Why is Diri So Afraid of Wike?”
“It’s unfortunate that a governor with full security resources would raise an alarm over mere suspicions,” Olayinka said. “People have the right to hold rallies. Why is Diri so afraid of Wike?”
He also criticized the governor for calling a Security Council meeting over a rumored rally. According to him, this action made Bayelsa’s leadership look childish. “Must he keep using Wike to cover up his governance and political failures?” Olayinka asked.
Diri Once Sought Wike’s Support
Highlighting Diri’s past ties with Wike, he recalled how the governor once sought Wike’s support for re-election. “He came like a thief in the night, brought by Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Lokpobiri, and David Lyon,” Olayinka claimed. “Diri knelt, begging for support, but Wike told him, ‘Don’t do that, you’re a governor.’ Now, he shamelessly attacks Wike to hide his weaknesses.”

This political clash further deepens the rift between Diri and Wike, who were once allies but are now fierce rivals.
