Former Edo South Senator, Ehigie Uzamere, has showered praises on Africa’s most enduring filmmaker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, lauding his unwavering dedication, creativity, and excellence that have defined his remarkable 30-year journey in the Nollywood film industry.
In a heartfelt memoir dedicated to the celebrated filmmaker, Senator Uzamere wrote:
“Today, we are not celebrating your years on earth but three decades of an African cinema icon, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, a man whose name stands for excellence, creativity, and cultural pride. A man who continues to excel in what he loves most.”
He described Imasuen as a storyteller who has, for three decades, illuminated screens with works that mirror Africa’s heritage, values, and humanity. According to him, through his art, Imasuen has entertained, educated, and inspired generations while bringing joy and reflection to countless homes.
“You stand tall as a proud son of Benin, a true cultural ambassador who has carried the torch of our identity across continents. Your journey has been marked by passion, hard work, and resilience. You have mentored numerous young talents who now thrive in their own creative paths because you believed in people and in the power of storytelling,” Uzamere noted.
He added that Benin history and culture continue to thrive through Imasuen’s creativity, which has preserved the people’s identity for generations to come.
Recalling a past encounter, the senator said, “I vividly remember an event we attended many years ago in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, where you gave an outstanding performance before a captivated audience. It was at that moment I concluded that your remarkable talents deserved greater encouragement and support. Time has since proven that conviction right, you have exceeded every expectation and continue to shine brightly.”
Uzamere further expressed pride on behalf of his family and supporters, saying, “The House of Ehigie Uzamere joins your family, colleagues, and millions of admirers worldwide in celebrating this extraordinary milestone. Your legacy keeps expanding, and your impact on Nollywood and Africa’s creative industry remains deeply profound. We are proud of you, Lancelot, and your exceptional achievements.”
He concluded with a prayer for continued success:
