The Presidency has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is behind the internal crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in an interview with AIT on Wednesday, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, insisted that the PDP’s troubles predate the current administration.
“It’s common for people to look for excuses when they fail. Some take responsibility and strive to improve, while others, weak in mind and character, blame external factors,” Bwala said. “Anyone observing the PDP can see it is fragmented and disorganized. These issues existed long before President Tinubu assumed office.”

Governance Beyond Party Lines
Addressing criticism over PDP governors showing support for Tinubu, Bwala emphasized the importance of governance partnerships beyond party lines. He said it is irresponsible for the opposition to criticize such cooperation.
“Governance is about delivering results to the people. It’s unfortunate for the opposition to suggest that state-federal collaboration is wrong. At this point, any plan to form a coalition to unseat the President is unrealistic, even politically,” he added.
Bwala also dismissed talk of a viable coalition against President Tinubu in 2027. He argued that opposition leaders lack the leadership qualities necessary to challenge the President.
“The PDP Governors Forum and the party’s National Working Committee are not aligned on any coalition efforts. Who, then, is spearheading this alliance?” he questioned. “Even the Social Democratic Party is complaining about external interference, what looks like political land grabbing.”
He concluded by criticizing opposition figures for lacking leadership and credibility.
“If you can’t manage your party, you can’t manage a country. Leadership isn’t a joke. Peter Obi, for example, wrote to senators on a legislative matter and was ignored. If you’re leading but no one is following, you’re just taking a walk.”
