The South West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent and seamless zonal congress, as preparations enter the final phase.
This comes as the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has officially set new dates for congresses in Ekiti State, beginning with the ward congress on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Zonal Congress to Proceed as Scheduled
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Ado-Ekiti, PDP South West Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, confirmed that the zonal congress will proceed as scheduled, in line with the NWC’s directives.
“The NWC has approved April 12 for the conduct of the congress, and all necessary arrangements are in top gear. Party members and aspirants have obtained their nomination forms and are undergoing screening ahead of the exercise,” Atofarati stated.
Efforts to Strengthen Party Unity
On the party’s internal cohesion, he noted that previous disagreements among leaders and members had been resolved, crediting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and his Osun State counterpart, Ademola Adeleke, for fostering unity.
“Our respected leaders have successfully brokered peace, ensuring that the PDP remains a formidable force in the region,” he added.
Official Congress Schedule Released
Meanwhile, a memo signed by the PDP National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, officially outlined the congress schedule for Ekiti State. The timeline includes:
Ward Congress – March 15, 2025
Local Government Congress – March 29, 2025
State Congress – April 12, 2025
Stakeholders Urged to Ensure a Smooth Process
Reacting to the announcement, Ekiti PDP Caretaker Chairman, Chief Dare Adeleke, expressed optimism about the process, urging party members to adhere to the outlined guidelines.
“As we move forward, it is essential for all stakeholders to familiarize themselves with the schedule to ensure a smooth and successful congress,” Adeleke stated.
With unity efforts gaining momentum and congress preparations underway, the PDP in the South West is positioning itself for a stronger political future in the region.
