## Police Respond to Gunfire Alert

Police officers responded within minutes after receiving an alert from ShotSpotter, a gunshot-detection system that uses microphones and technology to identify possible gunfire.

According to a statement from the City of Erie, officers subsequently entered the area and discovered multiple victims. Some victims were found outside the residence, while others were found inside the home.

The suspected gunman was also found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police reports.

Authorities clarified that all nine deaths occurred before officers arrived and that no additional gunshots were fired after their arrival. Sounds mistaken for gunfire during the police response were identified as flash bangs used by law enforcement during its tactical operation.

## Police Investigate Motive

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah described the incident as an exceptionally difficult tragedy, saying he had not witnessed anything comparable during his more than 28 years in law enforcement.

Police have not established a motive for the shooting and have cautioned against speculation while investigations continue.

The city also reassured residents that the situation had been contained and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Officials were expected to provide further information at a news conference as investigators worked to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

## Pennsylvania Governor Offers Support

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he had spoken with Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and offered the full support of his administration following the shooting.

Shapiro expressed condolences to the victims’ families and others affected by the tragedy.

The incident has left the Erie community grieving as authorities continue their investigation into one of the city’s most devastating recent acts of violence.
