…Entries Open for 11th Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition
Nigerian Breweries Plc has officially flagged off the 11th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition—an annual initiative aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding teachers across Nigeria.
Announced at a media event in Lagos on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the competition is open for entries from June 24 to August 22, 2025. Organised through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, the initiative continues its mission of celebrating excellence in the teaching profession across both public and private secondary schools.
Teachers interested in participating can apply online via www.maltinateacheroftheyear.com. Alternatively, they can download, complete, scan, and submit the application via email to: maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Hans Essaadi—represented by the Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo—reaffirmed the company’s enduring commitment to supporting the educational sector.
“This is more than just a competition. It is a national movement to honour the selfless service of our teachers who shape the future of our nation,” Essaadi said. He expressed gratitude to the sponsors—Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Air Peace, and First City Monument Bank (FCMB)—for their continued support.
He also acknowledged the unwavering contributions of key educational partners including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), crediting them for the competition’s credibility and growing national reach.
On her part, Sarah Agha, Marketing Director at Nigerian Breweries Plc, highlighted the competition’s alignment with Maltina’s brand values.

Mr. Odenigbo added that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and has created a lasting impact on communities through the inspiring stories of past winners.
Prizes for the 2025 Edition Include:
Overall Winner: Trophy, ₦10 million cash, international training opportunity, and a ₦30 million school infrastructure project.
First Runner-up: Trophy and ₦5 million.
Second Runner-up: Trophy and ₦3 million.
State Champions: Plaque and ₦1 million each.
Representatives from the education sector applauded the initiative, pledging continued support to promote widespread participation.
Since its inception in 2015, the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition has become a flagship programme for educational excellence in Nigeria, backed by the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund established in 1994.
