The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has commended Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited for its contributions to Nigeria’s livestock industry and agricultural growth.
During a visit to the company’s breeder farms and hatcheries in Awe, Oyo State, on February 2, 2025, the Minister praised the Noiler chicken breed, a dual-purpose bird for meat and eggs, for its role in improving food security and empowering rural communities, especially women.
He emphasized the need to expand Noiler production through village-based cooperatives and out-grower models, noting that this would make animal protein more affordable and accessible across the country.
Alhaji Maiha, who revealed that he had previously purchased Amo Farm’s day-old chicks for his own farm, expressed interest in future collaboration. “At the Ministry, these are the kinds of partners we want to work with,” he said.
The Role of Amo Farm in Food Security
Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, Group Managing Director of Amo Farm, applauded the Federal Government for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a major step toward improving food and protein security in Nigeria.
He stressed the importance of private sector involvement in growing the livestock industry and called for greater investment in agriculture to meet the needs of the country’s expanding population.
“At Amo Farm, we are committed to producing quality, affordable protein for Nigerians,” Dr. Oduntan said. “We look forward to working with the Ministry to scale up our efforts.”
Minister Engages in Poultry Operations
As part of the tour, the Minister observed the artificial insemination process used at Amo Farm to improve fertilized egg production. He also participated in the process, gaining firsthand insight into the company’s advanced poultry breeding techniques.
Dr. Anand Burra, Managing Director of Amo Farm, described the visit as a key step toward strengthening Nigeria’s livestock and animal protein industries.
