Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed that Nigeria’s major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), have formed a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the revelation on Wednesday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by stakeholders from Kogi East Senatorial District, led by former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba.

He stated that the coalition aims to provide a united front to challenge what he described as an “incompetent and inefficient” administration.

“You are leaders of your various communities. We have a coalition, the APC, PDP, Labour Party, all of us are involved. That is the way to confront this kind of government,” Atiku said while addressing the nation’s rising insecurity.

His remarks come amid a growing wave of realignments in Nigeria’s political landscape. Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, recently left the APC and is now reportedly aligning with the coalition under the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Likewise, ex-Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, also exited the APC, citing unfulfilled promises and governance failures.

Meanwhile, the PDP continues to face a string of high-profile defections. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, Atiku’s 2023 running mate, have reportedly parted ways with the party. The entire PDP structure in Delta State has also collapsed into the APC.

Additionally, several lawmakers have dumped the PDP, signaling major shifts ahead of the 2027 elections. On Tuesday, all three senators from Kebbi State officially defected to the APC on the floor of the Senate, cutting the PDP’s presence to just 30 senators.

These developments suggest intensified political maneuvering as opposition forces gear up to challenge Tinubu’s hold on power.
