The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a crucial stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for today (Monday) to finalize plans and set a date for the formal reception of Governor Agbu Kefas into the party.
Addressing journalists in Jalingo over the weekend, the APC state chairman, Ibrahim El-Sudi, described Governor Kefas’ impending defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “divine breakthrough” for the party, marking a major political shift in Taraba after over a decade of opposition.
“We have been yearning for this for 13 years. God has finally given us the Taraba Government House without going to the polls,” El-Sudi declared.
He said the development represents “a clear testimony that God’s time has come for the APC in Taraba,” emphasizing that the party had long laid the foundation for such a realignment.
Grand Reception In The Works
El-Sudi revealed that preparations are underway for a grand reception in Jalingo to formally welcome Governor Kefas into the APC. The event, he noted, will attract key figures from across the country, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), and prominent stakeholders from the Northeast geopolitical zone.
“Preparations are in top gear. The reception will be a historic event in Taraba as we formally receive the governor into our party,” he stated.
Kefas’ Consultations With APC Leaders
The APC chairman confirmed that Governor Kefas has already held several consultative meetings in Abuja with top APC leaders, including President Tinubu and the party’s national leadership, before making his final decision to switch allegiance.
“He has met those who matter, from the President to the national chairman. He was advised to engage with the APC structure in Taraba, and we are ready to welcome him,” El-Sudi said.
According to him, Kefas’ defection will strengthen collaboration between the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government, a move he believes will usher in “a new era of progress and development” for the state.
Assurance To Party Members
Responding to concerns among long-standing APC members, El-Sudi assured that no one would be sidelined following the governor’s entry into the party.
“Our party remains democratic. Anyone who wishes to contest for the governorship under the APC platform is free to do so,” he affirmed.
The Taraba APC, buoyed by what it describes as divine timing, now views Governor Kefas’ defection as the long-awaited opportunity to consolidate its influence in the state’s political landscape.
