As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state, the Anambra State government on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, demolished three identified kidnappers’ hideouts in Nnewi North Local Government Area.
The targeted locations included Ndiezenwankwo Uruagu, Umumejiaku Uruagu, and Obiofia Nnewichi in Nnewi North.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the operation was spearheaded by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim. He was accompanied by Special Adviser on Community Security, Chief Ken Emeakayi; House Committee Chairman on Security and Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Nnewi North Local Government Chairman, Mr. Echezona Anazodo; and Hon. Augustine Ike.
Commitment to Peace and Security
The demolition exercise underscores Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for residents and visitors alike. It also aligns with his administration’s broader anti-crime agenda, which recently saw the launch of the Anambra security initiative, Agunaechemba, and the special security operation codenamed Operation Udo Ga-Ach’ (translated as Operation Peace Shall Reign).
Advanced Security Measures
To enhance crime-fighting efforts, Operation Udo Ga-Ach’ personnel have been equipped with advanced security technologies, including AI-powered surveillance cameras, real-time tracking systems, and a command-and-control system integrating voice, video, and data for improved security coordination. Additionally, officers are utilizing walkie-talkies and other modern communication tools to enhance operational efficiency.
The initiative also features specialized task forces tackling drug-related crimes, touting, cultism, and criminal idolatry. These units conduct regular patrols and strategic stop-and-search operations across the state.
Governor’s Vision for a Secure Anambra
Governor Soludo reiterated that security, law, and order remain at the core of his administration’s vision to transform Anambra into a livable and prosperous homeland. He emphasized that the evolving nature of crime in the Southeast and across the nation demands a strategic and holistic approach.
Many stakeholders have lauded the Governor’s proactive measures, describing them as practical and reassuring in the fight against crime.
