Less than three weeks after announcing his divorce from his actress wife of 12 years, Annie Macaulay, Nigerian music icon 2Baba has publicly introduced politician Natasha Osawaru as his fiancée, fueling widespread debate.
Speculation about 2Baba’s relationship with Ms. Osawaru had been mounting, fueled by leaked photos and videos that surfaced online before the divorce announcement.
Ms. Osawaru, a politician, currently serves as the Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
On Monday, the singer’s unexpected appearance at the State House of Assembly during a plenary session further intensified rumors and seemingly confirmed his relationship with Ms. Osawaru.
In a surprising turn of events, the 49-year-old father of six openly professed his love for the lawmaker in a now-viral video.
“To whom it may concern. I do yarn my truth. Feel free to continue alleging. We shall all be alright,” he stated.
“Natasha is a young, brilliant, and amazing woman who has been unfairly labeled as a home breaker. Allegedly, I have been seeing so many things, so many people coming up with their false narratives and malicious nonsense after I posted that stuff that I posted.
“Yes, I posted what I posted. Hon. Natasha has nothing to do with what happened between me and Annie in our marriage. Yes, I love her. She is amazing and cool. I want to marry her.”
Similar to his divorce announcement video, the singer later deleted his engagement announcement video.
2Baba and Annie’s Relationship Timeline
2Baba and Annie’s relationship began as a friendship in 1999 before blossoming into a romance. Annie gained widespread recognition after appearing in 2Baba’s iconic “African Queen” music video in 2004. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Isabella, in 2008.
In 2012, 2Baba proposed to Annie on Valentine’s Day in Lagos, leading to a private wedding later that year. Their lavish white wedding took place in Dubai on March 23, 2013, and they welcomed their second daughter, Olivia, in 2014.
Their marriage faced several challenges, primarily due to 2Baba’s past relationship with Pero Adeniyi, the mother of three of his children. Despite tensions and public controversies, the couple renewed their vows in 2022 to mark their 10th anniversary, reaffirming their commitment and maintaining their status as one of Nigeria’s most admired celebrity couples.
Since 2Baba announced their divorce on January 27, Annie has remained absent from social media.
The news of 2Baba’s engagement has sparked mixed reactions, with some fans expressing support for his new relationship, while others criticize the swift transition following his divorce.
