Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has argued that President Bola Tinubu has put his 2027 re-election bid at risk, blaming the administration’s performance on the economy, insecurity and governance.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Adebayo claimed the Tinubu administration was already approaching the end of its political relevance, insisting many Nigerians were dissatisfied with the current state of the nation.

“Tinubu has defeated himself. His government is outgoing,” Adebayo said, adding that the administration had not lived up to its primary responsibility of addressing the challenges facing citizens.

He argued that increasing hardship, worsening insecurity and what he described as ineffective governance had damaged the government’s standing, stressing that the 2027 election should centre on practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges rather than individual politicians.

Adebayo also expressed support for efforts to strengthen political cooperation but said his main objective was fostering national unity instead of simply bringing opposition parties together to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our focus should be on uniting Nigerians, not just uniting politicians,” he said.

He added that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election would largely depend on whether Nigerians actively participated in the electoral process and believed their votes would be respected.

The SDP flagbearer encouraged citizens to remain involved in the democratic process, noting that lasting political change could only be achieved through credible elections and broad voter participation.

His remarks come as political activities continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with opposition parties exploring possible alliances while the APC positions itself to seek another term in office.
