Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to run an inclusive administration with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as an active partner in governance.

Obi stated that, under his leadership, the office of the Vice President would not be reduced to a ceremonial role, stressing that Kwankwaso would play a key part in decision-making and national development.

Speaking at the NDC National Convention in Abuja on Saturday, Obi officially announced Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso contested the last presidential election, finishing third and fourth respectively behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who emerged victorious.

Kwankwaso contested under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and secured victory only in Kano State, where he continues to wield significant political influence.

Addressing party delegates, Obi said: “The government we intend to build will not be one where the Vice President is treated as a spare tyre. The Vice President will be a partner because we are committed to building a nation where leadership is driven by collaboration and shared responsibility.

“Decisions will be taken collectively, consultations will be broad-based, and governance will be inclusive. That is the kind of government Nigeria needs.

“With that understanding, I gladly accept the mandate as the presidential candidate of this great party and invite Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to serve as my vice-presidential candidate.”

Obi further described Kwankwaso as a leader who shares his vision of a just and equitable society, emphasizing their common commitment to education, security, and national development.

“He believes in fairness, education, and security. Together, we will work to ensure these ideals become a reality for all Nigerians,” Obi added.
