The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has unveiled Dr. Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who said Okereke emerged through a consensus process involving party members and key stakeholders. The decision was subsequently ratified at a meeting held in Abuja on Friday.
Asogwa described Okereke as an accomplished governance reform advocate, policy strategist and institutional development expert, noting that he currently serves as President of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a research institution focused on legislative and policy development.
He added that Okereke also works as a legislative consultant to committees and senior lawmakers in the National Assembly and lectures in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University, Abuja.
According to the party spokesman, Okereke has earned widespread recognition for his contributions to legislative governance, public accountability and institutional reforms, while frequently providing expert commentary on national and international issues across various media platforms.
“Dr. Okereke has built an impressive reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading voices on public policy, legislative governance and institutional development. He embodies the vision of competent, accountable and transformational leadership that Nigeria urgently requires,” Asogwa stated.
Highlighting his academic background, Asogwa said Okereke holds a doctorate in Legislative Governance Studies, as well as master’s degrees in Public Administration and Legislative Studies, both earned with distinction.
He further noted that the LP presidential candidate has consistently championed youth empowerment, educational advancement and democratic reforms.
“Beyond his professional accomplishments, he remains committed to nation-building through youth empowerment, educational advancement and democratic reforms. His leadership, intellectual depth and commitment to good governance position him to lead Nigeria towards a more prosperous and accountable future,” he added.
The party said Okereke’s emergence underscores its commitment to presenting a credible, competent and transformational alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
