Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in New York on Tuesday, with discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defences, expanding security cooperation and preparing for the winter season.
According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders discussed plans to secure additional SAMP/T air defence systems and missiles through funding available under an EU loan arrangement.
He also said Ukraine and its partners were continuing discussions on producing air defence equipment and missiles domestically, alongside the FREYJA joint anti-ballistic defence programme.

“We continue working on the possibility of producing such air defense systems and missiles in Ukraine, as well as on the joint anti-ballistic program FREYJA with partners. We expect the first results this year,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.
France Pledges Support Ahead of Winter
Macron said his meeting with Zelenskyy also addressed the impact of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, warning that continued attacks could leave millions of Ukrainian households without adequate heating and electricity during the winter.
“France will stand alongside Ukraine to face the winter, and the G7 Energy group will also be mobilized by its side,” Macron said on X.
The French president further disclosed that France and Ukraine had signed an agreement covering the supply of radar systems. Paris will also provide interceptors intended to strengthen Ukraine’s existing air defence capabilities.
Macron said he had separately discussed assistance for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump. Their discussions also included proposals for an energy ceasefire and a possible moratorium in the Black Sea.
