The Kwankwasiyya Movement has responded to the recent Supreme Court judgment on the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it is reviewing the decision to avoid political or legal pitfalls.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the group commended the court for its courage and clarity.
It described the ruling, which overturned earlier orders that caused confusion, as a win for due process and a reflection of the judiciary’s stabilising role in democracy.
“By addressing the procedural irregularities that led to the artificial suspension of party leadership, the court has restored order and reaffirmed that institutions must operate within the law,” the statement said.
The movement noted that the substantive case has been returned to the trial court, expressing confidence that the ruling sets a strong basis for justice in the next phase.
“At this critical stage, we are carefully studying the judgment and analysing its implications, especially given the limited time in the electoral cycle,” it added.
It said the review is necessary to avoid any political or legal missteps that could hinder its principal and other opposition figures from participating effectively in the 2027 general elections.
The group also disclosed that it is considering lawful and strategic options, including possible alliances with other political platforms.
“We are exploring all legitimate options to neutralise potential obstacles,” it said, citing possible talks with the National Democratic Congress and the People’s Redemption Party.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic participation, the movement said its priority is to protect political rights and prevent any attempt to silence voters.
“Our objective is to safeguard our political rights, protect democratic participation, and ensure no contrived circumstances silence the people’s voice,” the statement added.
It assured supporters that a decision on its political direction will be announced soon.
“In the coming days, our leader will communicate an official position on a new political alignment,” it said.
The group also stressed the need for strong institutions and active citizen involvement to sustain democracy.
“Nigeria’s democracy depends not only on strong institutions but also on the resolve of its people to stand firm in uncertain times,” it added.
It urged members to remain calm and focused as consultations continue, affirming its unity and commitment to the democratic process.
