Wema Bank has joined forces with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to train and empower 800,000 businesses nationwide. The initiative, unveiled on February 25, 2025, in Lagos, aims to equip entrepreneurs with vital business skills over a 12-to-18-month period, fostering sustainable growth.

A Strategic Collaboration for Business Growth

Under the partnership, SMEDAN will identify businesses in need of support, while Wema Bank will provide training in business management, technical skills, and financial literacy.

Wema Bank’s Managing Director, Moruf Oseni, highlighted the institution’s unwavering commitment to small businesses since its inception in 1945.

“Our mission goes beyond financing; we aim to provide the tools and skills necessary for entrepreneurs to thrive,” Oseni said.

A Game-Changer for SMEs

SMEDAN’s Director General, Charles Odili, hailed the initiative as a transformative step for small businesses in Nigeria.

“This is the kind of tangible support SMEs need, real action, not just words,” Odili emphasized.

Strengthening Nigeria’s Business Ecosystem

Wema Bank has long been a champion of small businesses, offering financial access, mentorship, and training. Through this collaboration, the bank seeks to reinforce Nigeria’s entrepreneurial sector, fostering job creation and economic resilience.

With enhanced training, resources, and financial backing, Nigerian entrepreneurs now have a stronger foundation to succeed in an increasingly competitive market.
