President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the result of the governorship poll is another indication that democracy remains firmly rooted in Nigeria.
Tinubu conveyed his congratulations in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, following the declaration of Adeleke as the winner of the August 16 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The President said he had spoken directly with Adeleke by telephone to congratulate him on winning another four-year term. He said the result showed that the governor continued to enjoy the support and confidence of voters across the state.
“His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
The President wished Adeleke well in his second term and called on him to put the election behind him by working with all sections of the state, including those who supported other candidates.
Tinubu urged the governor to focus on promoting unity, stability and economic development across Osun State, regardless of political affiliation.
The President also praised the other candidates who contested the election, commending them for their participation and conduct during the electoral process.
According to Tinubu, the involvement of the various candidates contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture, while the final result reflected the choice of the electorate.
He further commended INEC and the security agencies for their roles in conducting the election, describing the process as peaceful and credible.
Tinubu said the professionalism displayed by electoral officials and security personnel helped reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured a second term after defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC). INEC declared him winner after results from all 30 local government areas were collated.
