Former presidential candidate and United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) Peace Consul, Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has called on both state and federal governments to urgently address the worsening security crisis in Kwara State.

She expressed concern over viral videos circulating online, describing the situation as “dire” as residents in Oke-Ode, Bankole, and Babanla communities in Ifelodun Local Government Area flee from violent bandit attacks.

“Kwara State is indeed facing a severe security challenge. Reports of kidnappings, killings, and widespread destruction demand urgent intervention,” Prof. Adesanya-Davies stated.

The Crisis in Numbers

Over 3,000 residents displaced from Babanla and surrounding villages.

More than 1,000 cattle stolen from a Fulani settlement near Bankole.

At least five people killed, including a police officer.

Several persons abducted, among them a woman and a young girl.

Public Reactions

The Kwara State government has faced criticism for what many describe as a slow and reactive approach to the escalating violence. Residents argue that swift and proactive measures are required to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.

Residents’ Plea

Community members are urging the government to:

Rescue kidnapped victims and ensure justice for the perpetrators.

Increase the presence of security operatives to secure vulnerable villages.

Prevent further attacks by bandits and terrorist groups allegedly operating in the region.

Call to Action

As an indigene of Kwara State, Prof. Adesanya-Davies pleaded with the authorities to act decisively.

She emphasized the need for:

Deployment of adequate security forces.

Humanitarian aid for displaced residents.

Coordinated efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the region.

“This crisis cannot be ignored. Both state and federal governments must rise to the occasion to protect lives and properties. We must all continue to pray for peace in Kwara and across Nigeria,” she added.
