June 18, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria: In observance of World Sickle Cell Day 2025, Ambassador Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies—esteemed UN-POLAC Peace Consul and Secretary General of the Board of Trustees (BOT) at the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC)—joins the global community in honoring individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.

World Sickle Cell Day is marked annually to raise awareness about the inherited blood disorder that continues to affect millions worldwide. It is a day dedicated to advocacy, support, and education, and Prof. Adesanya-Davies used the occasion to amplify hope, inclusion, and support for those living with the condition.

As Chairperson of the Prof Mercy Ade-Davies International Foundation (PMADIF), she has long been a passionate advocate for healthcare and the well-being of vulnerable populations. In her statement, she praised the courage and resilience of those battling sickle cell disease, describing them as “Conquerors who inspire hope and push boundaries.”

“On this World Sickle Cell Day, I salute the courage, determination, and fulfilment of those living with sickle cell disease. May Almighty God continue to guide, protect, and heal you. Your lives are testimonies of strength.”

She further urged the public to embrace empathy and support:

“Sickle cell warriors need to be loved, not rejected. Their very blood carries a signal of life’s battles, yet they remain resilient. Let us offer them love, kindness, and compassion, not just today but always.”

Prof. Adesanya-Davies also emphasized the need for greater advocacy:

“By promoting awareness, supporting medical research, and improving access to quality healthcare, we can significantly enhance the lives of those affected. Together, we must build an inclusive world where warriors can thrive.”

In closing, she called for continued commitment from all stakeholders:

“Let’s work towards a future where every child is tested, every patient is treated with dignity, and no one faces the burden of sickle cell alone. Wishing us all good health, long life, and prosperity as we commemorate this important day. God bless you all.”
