Amb. Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, former presidential candidate and Professor of Applied Linguistics, has celebrated Miss Nafisat Abdullah Aminu’s outstanding success.
Nafisat, a 17-year-old student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, won the Global English Award at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London. Moreover, she triumphed against more than 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English speakers.
Recognition for Nigeria
Her victory not only brought pride to Nigeria but also highlighted the potential of young talents in the country.
Global Honor: Nafisat’s performance earned recognition across international academic circles.
Language Excellence: She displayed outstanding mastery of English and communication.
Inspiration: As a result, her achievement motivated many young Nigerians to pursue excellence.
Leaders React to the Achievement
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised Nafisat and her teammates, describing them as a shining example of Nigeria’s bright future. Furthermore, he emphasized that their brilliance reflects the growing promise of the nation’s youth.
In addition, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni announced a grand reception for the winners and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education. Consequently, the state government’s investment in education continues to inspire confidence in young students.
Call for Flexible Education Policies
While congratulating Nafisat, Prof. Adesanya-Davies urged WAEC and JAMB to adopt policies that encourage, rather than discourage, exceptional students.
She stressed the need for flexible systems that recognize brilliance. According to her, rigid rules often limit talented students who have the capacity to excel globally. Therefore, examination bodies must create room for creativity and excellence.
“We must nurture young Nigerians like Nafisat. Our policies should open doors of opportunity, not close them,” she emphasized.

Prof. Adesanya-Davies expressed confidence in the future of Nigerian students. Indeed, Nafisat’s victory reflects the untapped potential within the country’s youth.
