The conference was convened by Mrs. Catherine Opeyemi Adesomoju, popularly known as Sister Kate, who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Spectrum Holdings. She is an entrepreneur, author and evangelist, and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Corporate Leadership and Entrepreneurship Management. She is also an alumna of Lagos Business School and Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Programme.
A key focus of the conference was the need for business owners to adopt an ownership mindset and take responsibility for their employees, operational systems, organisational culture and long-term business objectives.
Discussions also highlighted vision, discipline, integrity, continuous learning, courage and value creation as important considerations for entrepreneurs seeking to establish businesses capable of withstanding economic challenges.
Why Time Out With Kate Matters for Nigeria’s Economic Future
Beyond the annual conference, Time Out With Kate focuses on entrepreneurship education, mentorship and leadership development, with an emphasis on helping business owners strengthen their operations and plan for long-term continuity.
Businesses that rely heavily on their founders can encounter difficulties when leadership changes occur. Clear organisational structures, professional management, employee development and succession planning can help reduce these risks and support business continuity.
Through its focus on these issues, Time Out With Kate seeks to encourage entrepreneurs to look beyond immediate business survival and consider the structures required to sustain their enterprises over time.
Established in 2023, the conference has provided a platform for discussions on entrepreneurship, business development and economic empowerment.
The fourth edition was powered by His Presence Foundation, with support from itel Energy, Oraimo and Spectrum Innovation Technologies Limited. The event highlighted the potential role of sustainable businesses in creating employment, preserving institutional knowledge and contributing to economic development.
For Mrs. Adesomoju, building successful enterprises involves looking beyond individual financial gains to creating institutions that can continue to generate value and opportunities for future generations.
The discussions at the conference underscored the importance of sound business structures, effective leadership and succession planning in building enterprises with the capacity to thrive beyond their founders.
