Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, leader of the ruling APC in Nigeria’s South-South zone, has expressed confidence that the party will soon take control of the remaining three states currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He noted that Cross River, once the only APC-led state in the region, now stands alongside Delta and Edo in advancing the party’s progressive agenda. Governor Otu emphasized that this growth in APC governance is a significant milestone for the South-South region.
It will be recalled that yesterday, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Governor Otu formally welcomed Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the APC.
The PDP currently governs three states in the South-South, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers, though Rivers is now under a six-month emergency administration following the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara.
Upon his return to Calabar, the capital of Cross River, Governor Otu expressed, “The growing number of South-South states under APC governance marks the realization of a long-held dream.”
He emphasized that once the remaining three states are brought under APC control, it will pave the way for enhanced regional collaboration, accelerated economic growth, and greater political stability.
As Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, Otu encouraged Governor Oborevwori, fellow political leaders, and their supporters now joining the APC to leverage their experience and grassroots mobilization to advance the shared goal of a thriving South-South and a renewed Nigeria.
Governor Otu assured that, united under the APC, “the six states will lead the charge toward a brighter future for both the region and the nation.”
