The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed assertions by All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, that the North will back President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, in a telephone interview with Saturday Vanguard, described the claims as baseless, insisting that neither Ganduje nor Matawalle has the authority to speak on behalf of the North.

“Ganduje Lacks Credibility to Speak for the North”

Abdullahi argued that northerners have endured severe hardship under APC’s leadership and are unlikely to repeat their 2023 voting pattern.

“Ganduje does not command the respect of northerners, not even in Kano, where he comes from. He is merely trying to justify his relevance in the APC,” he said.

According to him, the North has been the worst-hit by the economic challenges under the APC-led government, first under former President Muhammadu Buhari and now under Tinubu.

“There is no such thing as the North backing APC or Tinubu. The country has been mismanaged, and the North is bearing the brunt the most,” Abdullahi asserted.

“The North is Disillusioned”

The PDP spokesperson further questioned where Tinubu expects to secure votes in 2027, noting that of the purported 8 million votes he received in 2023, 5.6 million came from the North.

“Now, the same North that voted for him is suffering the most. So, where exactly does he expect to get the votes to win in 2027?” he queried.

Dismissing Ganduje and Matawalle’s remarks as mere political propaganda, Abdullahi urged them to focus on governance rather than making misleading claims.

“The North is speaking loudly and clearly. Those selling political narratives for personal gain do not represent the region, and nobody is taking them seriously,” he concluded.
