Nigerian journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing marathon. He interviewed for 75 hours and 19 minutes, surpassing the previous record by more than 17 hours. The event took place at Harrow Park Golf Club in Abuja from April 17 to 20, 2025. It was a powerful statement for press freedom, with the theme “Nigeria Our Strength.”
During the marathon, Livinus conducted over 215 interviews. He spoke with a variety of guests, including civic leaders and ordinary Nigerians. Their conversations focused on press freedom and its role in strengthening democracy. Livinus broke the previous record of 55 hours and 24 minutes, set by Clara Chizoba Kronborg in March 2024.
A Symbol of Press Freedom
Livinus explained, “This isn’t just about endurance. It’s about showing how vital a free press is to democracy. Journalists often face threats and censorship, yet we persist.” He emphasized that a free press is essential for informed citizens and a thriving democracy.
The event received support from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council. Chairman Grace Ike praised Livinus, calling his achievement “bold and inspiring.” She highlighted how it showcased journalism’s power to drive change. Moses Obi Adigwe, winner of Nigerian Idol Season 3, also congratulated Livinus, saying, “I’m proud of you. The world is your stage. Go conquer and raise Nigeria’s flag high.”
Looking ahead, Livinus has big plans. He aims to conduct an interview in Antarctica and campaign for press freedom across 54 African nations. His record-breaking achievement has sparked renewed conversations about the challenges journalists face worldwide.
